9.1.11 On Becoming Evening

To become evening requires you turn out the lights.  Turn off the buzz and hum and screens. Slow down. Sit still long enough to let thoughts bleed black into side walk cracks or soil cracks or idea cracks.

Then you will know how sky feels when the first star burns through its skin.  How air quivers when cicada and katydid and lullabies rivet its arms more than motor drones. How a dining room gasps when a family of three sits down to eat and give thanks.

Then you will know the gloaming. The children’s hour. The in-between time. The wonders.

Then you become evening.

How about you? How do you become evening? What were your day’s three highlights? Share them below and let us know where you’re writing from.

See you in the woods,
The Three Highlights Guy
